A master chef, Kate, lives her life like she runs the kitchen at a trendy restaurant in Manhattan. She is up at dawn to buy fresh produce and fish, and ends her day when the kitchen closes at midnight. Her lack of rapport with her staff results in her boss sending her to a therapist. She rules him like she rules her customers -- by serving him fabulous food. Raised by her now deceased, beloved single mother, she is expecting a visit from her only, divorced sister and niece. En route her sister is in a car accident and she is suddenly a single parent to her niece, who refuses to speak or eating due to PTSD. A temporary chef is hired in her absence and Kate is shocked to find the restaurant remains a success.
