Duncan is a depressed twenty-something in Minneapolis, Minnesota still playing hockey with his high school friends who mock, rather than help, him. Although he dreams of being an engineer, he's just lost another dead end job; so he makes ends meet by renting his shabby apartment to his brother for an extramarital affair. Then he takes a handyman job in his grandparent's assisted living building and starts visiting them regularly. His grandfather has Parkinson's Disease, among other conditions, so they have hired a visiting nurse whom Duncan finds attractively upbeat. As they begin a tentative romance, and Duncan spends more time with his grandparents, he realizes he must face his unresolved feelings about the early death of his father, the absence of his mother, and figure out why it has left it difficult for him to move forward with his life.
