Lars is a touching, amusing, and humorous man. Unfortunately, his mother's death during his childbirth and his father's ensuing depression and death have left him with emotional scars that keep him from being fully engaged with life. After years of near solitude, living by choice in the rear garage of the family home, now inhabited by his brother and pregnant sister in law, Lars purchases an online human sized, inflatable doll he calls Bianca. After being introduced to her, Gus and Karen are stunned and consult the family doctor. She explains that Bianca is a delusion Lars created because he needed to and in order for his behavior to improve, everyone must indulge Lars by taking Bianca seriously. Bianca not only heals Lars, but everyone she comes into contact with, as well.
