Roy and Frank, are partners in con. What Roy, a veteran of the grift and Frank, his ambitious, younger partner swindle are water filtration systems, or bargain-basement water filters bought by unsuspecting people who pay ten times their value in order to win bogus gifts they'll never collect. These scams add up to a lucrative partnership. Roy's private life, however, is a mess. An obsessive-compulsive agoraphobic, he's barely hanging on. When his disorders threaten his criminal productivity, he seeks the help of a psychoanalyst. During the course of his therapy, he reveals that he's always been troubled by the idea that he may have a teenage daughter. This is confirmed when fourteen-year-old year old Angela shows up. At first, she disrupts her father's father's carefully ordered neurosis, yet soon he enjoys parenting. But while he develops paternal feelings, she's developing a fascination with Daddy's career.
