Joel is the only child and teenage son being crushed by the weight of his parent's expectations: achieve perfect grades in order to be accepted by Princeton, the perfect university. When they leave him alone at home on the north shore of Chicago to study for his SAT's while they take a short vacation, Joel's friends talk him into letting loose. One phone call leads and he unleashes every wrong thought and decision for the first time in his life. It also allows him to be creative about righting all the wrongs, trading in his ever-present guilt for some long-overdue confidence, and finding out what he can actually accomplish when left to his own devices...with a little help from his resourceful new friend, Lana.
