A wealthy New Orleans widow named Violet, attempts to bribe Dr. Cukrowicz, a young psycho-surgeon from a mental hospital desperately in need of funds, into giving her niece, Catherine, a lobotomy to prevent her from revealing the truth about the death of her son, a gay poet named Sebastian. The doctor is against the lobotomy knowing Catherine could recover if allowed to recall the horrific event she experienced with Sabastian the previous summer.
